The Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria has officially changed its name to Academy of Medical Sciences.

Speaking in an interview, president of the Academy, Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, said the new name better aligned with its expanded focus in health sciences, saying this update not only reflected the Academy’s mission but also emphasised its status as Nigeria’s leading institution in various medical science disciplines.

He added that the name change followed the Academy’s admission into the Global Inter Academy Partnership, which included 140 international academies. This milestone, achieved within a year of the Academy’s founding in 2021, underscores its commitment to representing diverse fields such as medicine, clinical and basic sciences, dentistry, and pharmacy. The broader title enhances the Academy’s reputation and aligns it with global standards in medical education and research.
