The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, has assured that corps members will not be posted to communities experiencing security threats across the country.

He emphasised that their safety and well-being remain a top priority for the organisation.

Speaking during an address to the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream 11 corps members in Katsina, Ahmed stated that the NYSC would continue to assess the security situation in various regions and only post corps members to areas deemed safe.

He said, “We will not send our corps members to wherever we have security challenges and threats.

”Wherever we send them, they should be rest assured that the place is safe and secured for them to serve.”

The DG further urged corps members to reciprocate the government’s gesture by fulfilling their responsibilities diligently throughout their service year. He reaffirmed that the NYSC is committed to the welfare and security of all corps members and that no corps member will be deployed to areas where there are known security challenges. The assurance comes amidst growing concerns over the safety of corps members in certain regions, with the NYSC saying it’s taking proactive measures to ensure that security threats do not compromise the safety of its members.

In addition to the security guarantee, the NYSC DG also announced that the payment of a significant increase in the monthly allowance for corps members will commence in February.

“This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, by next month (February), you will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” Ahmed explained, highlighting the government’s commitment to supporting corps members during their service year.

This adjustment was reflected in the 2025 Federal Government budget.
