The Thomas Adewumi University, Kwara State, has matriculated 780 new students into various academic programmes.

The freshers were enrolled across seven faculties and 22 programmes.

Speaking during the matriculation ceremony held at the school auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, said the growing enrolment figures were a testament to the confidence reposed in the institution by parents and guardians.

“Today, we formally welcome into our academic community a new cohort of 780 bright young men and women who have chosen to begin their higher education journey with us,” she said.

“These figures reflect the growing trust that parents and students place in Thomas Adewumi University as a centre of academic excellence.

I urge you to make the most of the excellent facilities, quality teaching, and serene environment the university offers.”

She also encouraged the students to take seriously their academic and extracurricular activities while upholding the university’s code of conduct.

“We are committed to equipping you with the knowledge, skills, and character you need to thrive in a rapidly changing world. This university will continue to provide a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for you to flourish,” she added.

In his remarks, the Chancellor and Founder of the university, Johnson Adewumi, charged the students to live by the matriculation oath and represent their families honourably.

“Oath must be obeyed. Your parents have done well by ensuring you live on campus. It is now up to you to be worthy ambassadors of your homes,” he said.

Adewumi also emphasised the importance of practical skills and global competitiveness, revealing that students are expected to complete hours of community service and obtain at least two international certifications before graduation.

“As students of TAU, you must participate in skill acquisition programmes and position yourselves as future IT professionals,” he added.

The event was attended by dignitaries, including representatives from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board led by Mr. Habib Usman Maiyaki, traditional rulers, parents, and other stakeholders from the education sector.
